Set within a rural property in Western Australia’s South West, this project was shaped by the relationship between the existing home, established landscape and surrounding vineyard.

The pool and garden were designed to feel as though they had always belonged to the property, taking cues from the architecture, materiality and formality of the existing home. Strong site axes extend from the house through the garden, creating a considered sequence of terraces, hedging, stonework and open lawn before arriving at the pool.

Positioned to overlook the vineyard beyond, the pool becomes part of the broader landscape rather than an isolated element. Clipped hedging and structured planting provide a sense of order close to the home, gradually giving way to the more relaxed rural landscape beyond.

A stone clad fireplace creates a separate, more intimate outdoor room within the garden. Framed by mature olive trees, clipped planting and soft perennials, the space is grounded by a fine summer stone mulch that gives it the relaxed character of a Southern French garden. Warm natural stone, silvery foliage and subtle lighting through the olive canopies create atmosphere through the evening, making the fireplace a destination within the wider landscape.

Together, the spaces balance structure and informality, creating a garden that responds to the character of the existing home while remaining deeply connected to its South West setting.
